- Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Unveiled Ahead Of Pikes Peak Record Bid
New Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) racecar unveiled ahead of this year's edition of the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event.
As reported prior, Korean automaker Hyundai is set to tackle the infamous Pikes Peak hill climb rally with its manic Ioniq 5 N performance EV crossover, and it wants to set a new course record in this effort too.
Besides two production-based entrants reported prior, the Hyundai N performance arm will also enter the event with two race-prepped machines. The latter was unveiled recently and christened as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack).
Though based on the Ioniq 5 N road car, the TA-spec racecar sports radical modifications - including a radical full aerokit - to conquer to challenging hill climb.
Visually, the TA-spec cars evidently stand apart from the road car it underpins. That’s because it rocks a very aggressive aerokit that includes a massive rear spoiler, side sills, and extra wide fender flares.
Rolling stock consists of 18-inch forged wheels shod in Yokohama racing slicks. Behind each lie massive six-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) racing brakes. Primed on each corner too are race suspension with three-way adjustable dampers offering ride-height and camber adjustment.
Critically, Hyundai N also extracted much more power from the dual-motor setup primed in the Ioniq 5 N TA. Specifically, the rear motor unit now pumps out 37 HP more in full overboost mode, thus bringing total output up to 678 HP for the TA-spec cars.
Besides the TA-spec machines, Hyundai N will also enter the hill climb with two production-based entries.
Besides the customary special livery wrap and necessary racing safety hardware – i.e. bucket seats, harness, roll cage, and fire-suppression system – the pair of TA-spec cars also boasts louder external speakers rated at 120 dB.
The latter, according to Hyundai N, will emit tones produced by the novel Hyundai N Active Sound+ suite. These not only conform with EV racing safety requirements, Hyundai N adds that the piped-in engine sound also enhances driver feedback.
Both the Hyundai 5 N TA machines, as well as the two production-based entries, will see Hyundai aim for a production EV record at the famed hill climb course.
Lastly, Hyundai also confirmed it is working with popular driving game title Gran Turismo 7. “We are investing in the future of motorsport with our first ever electric Pikes Peak racer and collaboration with Gran Turismo," said Till Wartenberg, VP and head of N Brand at Hyundai.
