Honda Civic Type R FL5 Lands In Gran Turismo 7 Via Latest Update 1.38 Patch
The Honda Civic Type R FL5 is now available for players to race with Playstation-exclusive title Gran Turismo 7!
In the same week where the real world car makes its Malaysian market debut, the sixth generation (FL5) Honda Civic Type R hot hatch also makes its virtual debut in the world of Sony Playstation-exclusive driving title Gran Turismo 7.
Its in-game arrival is part of the title’s latest Update 1.38 patch released today by developers Polyphony Digital and it features a host of minor new additions, improvements, plus two other new vehicles. While not a major update, the arrival of Honda’s latest hot hatch into the game is hugely exciting.
The real world Malaysia-spec FL5 Civic Type R launched this week with a princely RM399,900 price tag plus a 'ballot' purchase scheme stemming from its limited 19-unit allocation.
By now, we’re certain you’re up to speed with the fact that the real-world car will cost prospecting Malaysian buyers a princely sum of RM399,900. The fact just 19 units have been allocated locally from the 2023 model year run also see it being sold via a ‘ballot’ scheme to keep things fair.
If you wish not to deal with either predicaments, then the model’s immediate in-game availability plus seemingly more ‘affordable’ 50,000 Credits price tag should sate your need to acquire Honda’s latest R-badged performance hero, albeit virtually.
You get more colour choices plus the full extent of the K20C1 VTEC Turbo mill's 325 HP and 420 NM outputs, albeit virtually, via the game.
Moreover, the model featured in-game isn’t de-tuned as the real world Malaysia-spec car that’s open for bookings right now too – it gets the full works of its signature 2.0-litre K20C1 4-cyl VTEC Turbo mill outputting 325 HP (330 PS) and 420 NM.
Additionally, you’ll also get the chance to race the hot hatch across the famed ‘Green Hell’ that is the Nurburgring Nordschleife to see if you can virtually match the real world car’s record-setting 7:44.881 laptime – a feat that sees it stand as the quickest front-wheel-drive (FWD) to rule said course right now.
Presently, Gran Turismo 7 features the FL5 (top), EK9 (above, left), FK2, and FK8 (above right) generations of the Civic Type R in-game.
Notable too is the fact that the FL5 stands as the fourth version of the Civic Type R to become available in the game after the legendary EK9, as well as the newer and UK-built FK2 and FK8 generation models. At present, just the EP3 hatch and sedan-bodied FD2 models continue their virtual absence here.
The FL5 Type R aside, Update 1.38 also sees another rivalling Japanese hot hatch, the Toyota GR Corolla, becoming available in-game for players to acquire and race with. The model was previously offered as an exclusive free gift for participating in the online Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup e-sport challenge.
The other two vehicles added via Update 1.38 are hot hatches too starting with the Gr.4 racing version of the Mazda 3 hatch (left), followed by the SEMA 2017 Gran Turismo Award-winning Garage RCR Civic track car build.
As for the two other new cars added via Update 1.38, they come in the form of SEMA 2017 Gran Turismo Award winner Garage RCR Civic, and a new Gr.4 racing version of the Mazda3 hatch. The latter is based on the Super Taikyu Bio Concept real world racer campaigned by Mazda Spirit Racing outfit in Japan.
As for the Garage RCR Civic, it brings players with a unique proposition of sampling a K-swapped EG-generation Civic track car built by fame American tuner Phil Robles. It sports a screaming K24 heart that outputs a whopping 394 HP, meaning this should provide hours of challenging yet thrilling fun for players.
