Traffic Won’t Be Affected During PLUS Senai-Sedenak Upgrade Says LLM Chairman

The expansion of the North-South Expressway (NSE) from four to six lanes between Senai Utara and Sedenak is set to begin by the end of this month, assured Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.
He also added that this project would not cause traffic congestion as the existing two lanes in both directions will remain open to road users during the upgrade.
However, there are still some challenges especially for heavy vehicles since the road would be narrowed during the project. “The construction of the third lane may pose challenges, especially for heavy vehicles, as the road will become slightly narrower,” he adds.
LLM is expected to issue the Letter of Acceptance to the selected contractor soon, with completion of the first and second phases of the initial package anticipated within 36 months for both directions.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in Oct last year during the Budget 2024 presentation that the NSE's expansion from four to six lanes will extend from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam at a cost of RM931 million.
Currently, the stretch of six to eight lanes on the NSE from Kuala Lumpur southwards terminates in Melaka.
Regarding the Senai Desaru Expressway expansion project, Hasni disclosed that work is also scheduled to commence by the end of this month.
“The duration of this project is 24 months. The highway, currently two lanes in both directions, will be expanded to four lanes. We will finalise the contractor appointment soon,” added the former Johor Menteri Besar. KR
