- Geely Galaxy E5 Opens For Booking From RM80K; Possible e.MAS Details Revealed
The Geely Galaxy E5 officially opened its pre-sale order book yesterday. In true Chinese fashion, consumers can place orders through various official channels, including the Geely Galaxy App, WeChat App, and the official website. The Galaxy E5 is slated for official launch and delivery in Aug.
Early buyers will benefit from a series of incentives such as a free Flyme Sound system valued at RMB8,800 (RM5,700) and more. Furthermore, early adopters will enjoy exclusive test drive opportunities and priority car pick-up rights.
CariCarz.com had previously detailed that this offering would be Geely’s first global offering whereby both left and right hand drive (LHD & RHD) models are being developed concurrently. Moreover, the RHD global model is tipped to be the base of the Proton e.MAS in Malaysia, which is poised for launch in Dec this year.
In China, the Galaxy E5 sees five variants available. This would also be a clear indication for what we can expect from the Proton e.MAS version when it launches later this year. The variants available are:
- 530KM Starship: RMB157,000 (RM102,000)
- 530KM Discovery+: RMB147,000 (RM95,000)
- 530KM Voyage: RMB137,000 (RM89,000)
- 440KM Exploration: RMB133,000 (RM86,000)
- 440KM Sailing: RMB123,000 (RM80,000)

The Galaxy E5 boasts a distinctive appearance, integrating what they claim as bionic design elements inspired by tigers on the front facia such as eyes (headlights) and whiskers (bumper design element with light). The closed front grille design is typical to most EVs and optimises wind resistance, enhancing its mileage performance.
The SUV features hidden door handles and newly designed wheels. At the rear, the wrap around tail light assembly, large top spoiler, and colour-coded diffuser plate underscore its sporty appeal. The dimensions of the Galaxy E5 are 4,615 MM in length, 1,901 MM wide, and 1,670 MM in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 MM.
To put things in perspective, the Proton X70 is 4,519 MM long, 1,831 MM wide, 1,694 MM tall, with a wheelbase of 2,670 MM too. This puts the Galaxy E5 and upcoming e.MAS as a longer, wider car that promises a larger cabin then the X70 despite being a tad bit shorter.
Interior Features
Inside, the Galaxy E5 offers a stylish and comfortable environment with a dark-on-top-light-on-bottom colour scheme.
Other key interior features include a 15.4-inch floating 2.5K HD infotainment screen, an 10.2-inch LCD instrument panel, and a head-up display (HUD). The infotainment screen is integrated with the 16 speaker Flyme Auto system and is powered by the 7nm Dragon Eagle No. 1 processor.
The front passenger seat are ‘zero-gravity’ types while the rear seats allow for significant legroom, enabling smaller occupants to stretch out comfortably during long journeys.
Tech
The Galaxy E5 is equipped with the Galaxy 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, which includes 11 major components such as motors, electronic controls, and reducers. This system boasts a compact volume of 72 litres and weighs 79.8 KG, but boasts overall efficiency of 90.04%, and a minimum power consumption of 11.9 kWh per 100 KM.
The system features the Infineon TC397 power chip, known for its high communication efficiency and rapid power response. Additionally, the vehicle benefits from the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform which is derived from Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and various self-developed technologies that enhance driving control and vehicle stability.
Safety
The Galaxy E5 includes Geely's self-developed G-TCS all-weather drive anti-skid system, which adjusts torque output based on road conditions to ensure optimal road adhesion. The vehicle also employs R&H virtual tuning technology, simulating global road spectra and undergoing over 10,000 tuning iterations, with vehicle posture tuning refined to 0.1 degrees.
The CTB battery-body integration technology enhances the vehicle's balance, achieving a front and rear axle load ratio of 50:50 and a lower centre of mass.
Performance
In terms of performance, the Galaxy E5 sees just a single-motor setup available with a 160 kW output. The SUV however is offered with two Aegis Short Blade battery specifications - 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh, corresponding to claimed CLTC pure electric ranges of 440 KM and 530 KM, respectively.
According to Geely, the Aegis Short Blade Battery features an energy density of 192 Wh/kg and offers a lifespan of up to 3,500 cycles. This longevity translates to approximately 1 million KM of driving with minimal impact on range.
To sum things up, the Geely Galaxy E5 promises to be a significant contender in the compact SUV market, offering a blend of innovative design, advanced technology, and competitive pricing. The official launch in Aug is highly anticipated, with further details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
