JIMEX: China Plans to Set Up EV Manufacturing Hub In Johor For African Market.
Johor is poised to become the next major manufacturing hub for electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia as Chinese companies have expressed a strong interest in establishing a large-scale factory in the state.
Confirmation of which was provided by Datuk Seri Farid Ibrahim of the Johor Import and Export Industry Association (JIMEX), who is presently leading the negotiations to finalise this substantial investment.
"Johor's strategic location, which provides excellent logistical advantages for export operations, is the primary reason for selecting the state for this investment," he added.
Three potential locations for the factory are being assessed by the Chinese companies: Tanjung Langsat in Pasir Gudang, Tanjung Piai in Pontian, and Pengerang in Kota Tinggi.
Although talks are still in progress, the envisaged facility will initially serve the African market by producing 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) per month once it is online.
The local economy will benefit greatly from this project. In addition to potentially elevating Johor to a prominent position in the EV manufacturing sector, Farid emphasised that the construction of the EV manufacturing plant will generate over 10,000 jobs.
