- KLIA's New Aerotrain Set To Be Operational in Q1 2025
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will have its new aerotrain service up and running by the first quarter of 2025, according to the Transport Ministry (MOT). This aligns with the plan to replace the aerotrain at Terminal 1, which is scheduled to be completed by January 31, 2025.
The KLIA Aerotrain services which run between the main and satellite terminals had been suspended after the March 1st 2024 incident which saw 114 passengers stranded mid journey during their trip due to mechanical and electronic failure.
Despite Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB) trying to rectify issues the 25 year old train which suffered a faulty internal wiring was deemed inoperable as parts supply was a major concern due to its unavailability due to non-production.
According to MOT, both the ministry and Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd (MAHB) are dedicated to ensuring the timely execution of the aerotrain replacement plan.
MOT also mentioned that MAHB had initially signed a letter of agreement (LOA) ALSTOM Transport Systems on June 14, 2024, ensuring that the project would be completed by January 31, 2025.
