The construction of the 67 KM long West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE), connecting Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar, is set to begin this year, according to Perak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The construction is slated to take place after the completion of the concession agreement signing, which is currently being scheduled by the Prime Minister’s Department’s Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) and WISE.

“Once the agreement is signed, construction can proceed,” Saarani stated during a press conference at the Prosperous Perak Plan 2030 Orang Asli Community Engagement Council and Batin Symposium.

The WISE highway will serve as an alternative route to the North-South Expressway’s (PLUS) Menora Tunnel, featuring three two-way lanes. Starting in Gopeng, it will pass through Batu Gajah, Siputeh, Manong, Tronoh, Beko, and Seri Iskandar, ending in Kuala Kangsar.

WISE, which was approved by the Cabinet on December 14, will be developed through a Private Financing Initiative (PFI) by the concessionaire.

Additionally, the federal government is expediting the project to alleviate congestion on the PLUS highway, particularly around the Menora Tunnel.
