- Acura Teases New Performance EV Concept Ahead of Monterey Debut
Acura has teased a new performance EV SUV concept ahead of its Monterey Car Week debut next week.
The Monterey Car Week auto show is upon us, and we are to expect some new models and concepts making their inaugural debut here. One of which is from Acura, where the automaker is poised to unveil its latest all-electric concept.
Ahead of its debut, the Japanese-American automaker has teased the new EV concept, showcasing the rear end of the car. From here, we can immediately see that the study will be in the form of a sporty coupe SUV, featuring full-width LED taillights with stylish LED graphics and what appears to be illuminated Acura lettering. What actually gives away that this concept is a coupe SUV is the sloping rear windscreen and the wide rear shoulders.

Beyond the single teaser image, no details were shared by Acura pertaining to its new design study. Described as a “segment-defying sport utility vehicle” with dynamic styling, the production version of this EV concept will be the first model to use Honda’s new dedicated EV platform. Mind you, this is not the same platform used on the Honda Prologue and the new Acura ZDX EV, as both of them underpin the GM Ultium EV architecture as part of Honda’s now-disbanded partnership with the auto conglomerate.
The new Acura EV SUV will be manufactured at the Honda Marysville production facility in Ohio.
Also unlike the Prologue and ZDX, this new Acura EV SUV will be produced at Honda’s Marysville plant in Ohio, where it will share the same assembly line as other Acura models like the new Integra. Positioned as a sporty, performance-oriented midsize EV SUV, we can expect this new Acura EV to go against the likes of the Tesla Model X, BMW iX, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, as well as the Audi Q8 e-tron, albeit featuring a sportier coupe SUV body style like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
We can learn more about this mysterious concept at the ongoing 2024 Monterey Car Week, which takes place in California from Aug 9 to 18.
