Careplus has launched the Careplus Group ESG program in conjunction with the development of Careplus Mall.

Careplus Group Berhad today launched the Careplus Group ESG program in conjunction with the development of Careplus Mall. This launch marks the group’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility as part of its core values as it ventures into the manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs).

Today’s launch was held across two separate venues in the state of Negeri Sembilan, with the first one taking place at the Careplus Mall in Seremban and the second one at the NevX manufacturing facility site in Chembong.

Officiating the launch was Negeri Sembilan State Tourism, Arts, and Culture Committee chairperson, YB Nicole Tan Lee Koon, alongside the Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, who is also the Member of Parliament for Seremban. To mark the commencement of its ESG programme, a 30-year-old tree from the Careplus Mall has been planted next to the NevX plant in Chembong.

With the launch of its ESG programme today, the firm’s new NevX EV production facility will be operated with ESG strategies in mind. Once operational, the new plant is expected to reduce its carbon footprint through several eco-friendly solutions, including zero wastewater discharge and zero noise pollution, while solid waste will be processed through recycling centres within the facility.

More importantly, a significant portion of the facility’s energy will be powered by solar panels that are planned to be installed on the roof of the plant.

Applauding Careplus’ efforts in establishing its own ESG programme, Loke said that the firm’s plan to set up a dedicated EV production facility is part of efforts to promote clean technology and reduce the country's carbon footprint, as well as reduce dependence on diminishing fossil fuels. He further spoke on the government's efforts to incentivise and facilitate efforts to achieve the goals of the project and to ensure all safety measures and environmental standards are followed during the construction and operation of the plant.

"It is clear that the adoption of EVs is also another effective way to uphold ESG principles. Thus, for me, the choice to develop the EV industry is a right choice in line with the automotive industry while upholding EG,"  Loke said.

Set to be fully operational later in 2025, the Phase 1 construction of the NevX EV production facility has been well underway since November last year, with Careplus stating that the plant has reached 30% of its completion earlier in April 2024. The first phase of the project will have an expected annual capacity of 50,000, while at the same time bringing more than 600 career opportunities to the local community.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 and Phase 3 of this project are set to commence later in 2026 and 2028, respectively. Once fully completed, this will further expand the complex’s annual production capacity to over 100,000 units, with a total investment of RM600 million being channelled to the whole project.
