China’s First Half Vehicle Exports Jump 31%, Helping Extend The Lead Over Japan

According to data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers, China was ahead of Japan in vehicle exports in the first half of 2024, having surpassed its Asian neighbor as the world's top vehicle exporter in 2023.
The Association reports that its total vehicle exports for the first six months of the year totaled 2.02 million. That represents a slight 0.3% decrease year on year, with 1.83 million passenger vehicles and approximately 187,000 commercial vehicles. 
From January to June, Chinese manufacturers exported more than 2.79 million vehicles. This represents an impressive 31% increase, with 2.34 million passenger vehicles and 450,000 commercial vehicles, according to carscoops.
The top five car exporters in the country are Chery Automobile, SAIC Motor Corp., Changan Automobile Co., Geely Automobile Holdings, and BYD. With 532,000 exports, Chery topped SAIC (439,000), Changan (285,000), Geely (242,000), and BYD (207,000) in the first half of the year. -full.jpg)

For the record, in 2023, Chinese automakers exported approximately 5.26 million vehicles, dethroning Japan as the world's largest vehicle exporter.
