- smart #5 EV Will Get A 20-Speaker Sennheiser Audio System
Through this newly-formed partnership, the upcoming smart #5 will get a 20-speaker audio system from Sennheiser.
Ever since the debut of the #1, smart EVs have always been using Beats sound system, with the same audio system also offered to the #3 coupe crossover. However, this will change in the future, as smart recently announced a new partnership with renowned audio company Sennheiser in a bid to “enhance the future of in-car audio entertainment.”
Through this newly-formed partnership, future smart EVs will be offered with Sennheisers premium audio system, with the first model slated to receive this upgrade being the upcoming smart #5 EV SUV.
Cordially known as the Sennheiser Signature Sound System, this audio setup for the #5 features 20 speakers, which is significantly more than the current 13-speaker setup offered by Beats. With a total power output of over 2,000 watts, this premium audio system also features some of Sennheiser’s patented technology, such as the Concerto with Ambeo and Contrabass audio algorithms, while at the same time providing support for Dolby Atmos surround sound.
As for the speaker layout, the #5’s 20-speaker layout will not only feature the usual door-mounted units but also a single unit that is raised above the car’s front dash. And just like the Beats speakers, the Sennheiser ones will also be integrated with the car’s ambient lighting system, where they can pulsate according to the beats of the music being played.
Commenting on this new partnership, smart global chief marketing officer Mandy Zhang said, “Our collaboration with Sennheiser represents the beginning of a new era in smart’s in-car entertainment offerings and the start of another journey with a truly outstanding global partner. We are more than confident in delivering an unparalleled experience in sound.”
Meanwhile, Sennheiser co-CEO Andreas Sennheiser said, “We are delighted to continue bringing our remarkable Sennheiser sound to the automotive space through our partnership with smart. At Sennheiser, we deliver products and experiences that create goosebumps on the skin. In this partnership, we are poised to do exactly that, offering a truly immersive listening experience that puts the driver and passengers at the centre of their favourite music.”
Intentionally or not, these photos of the Sennheiser audio system also gave us a glimpse of the #5’s interior cabin, which surprisingly features luxurious wood veneers and trims over the standard soft-touch materials present on both the #1 and #3. But then again, we’re not too far from witnessing the global debut of the #5, which will take place in Australia later today.
