- Toyota’s New GR App Unleashes Extra Power in GR Performance Cars
Toyota has released a new GR mobile app in Japan, promising to unlock extra power in GR performance cars.
Need to squeeze some extra beans on your GR performance cars? Good news, as Toyota has launched a special GR app in Japan to help GR owners get the most out of their cars.
Known as the Toyota GR Circuit Mode, this dedicated app will be available from Aug 21 onwards exclusively in Japan for now, and it will be compatible with the new 2024 Toyota GR Yaris and the Lexus LBX Morizo RR, both of which use the same 1.6-litre 3-cyl turbocharged engine.
According to Toyota Japan, one of this app’s features for unleashing more power out of your GR cars is raising the car’s electronic speed limiter, which was originally set at 180 KM/H in Japan as part of the voluntary agreement between Japanese carmakers. Also featured in this app is a set of configurable shift lights that helps drivers shift better.
More importantly, the Toyota GR Circuit Mode app can also manage the car’s turbo boost, thus promising to improve your GR car’s performance. And to ensure the additional boost doesn’t ruin the engine, the app also optimises the operation of the cooling fan for track use.
Speaking of tracks, Toyota Japan says this dedicated app contains data for 34 individual race tracks throughout Japan, including both the infamous Fuji Speedway and Suzuka Circuit. Using the smartphone’s GPS data, the app can recognise the car when it enters one of the selected tracks, which will then unlock access to the various performance-related functions.
For now, the new Circuit Mode app will only support both the GR Yaris & LBX Morizo RR.
For now, however, this new Toyota GR Circuit Mode is a Japan-exclusive app that supports only two cars, namely the newly-updated 2024 Toyota GR Yaris and the Lexus LBX Morizo RR. Given that the automaker recently unveiled the updated Toyota GR Corolla, we can also expect the five-door twin of the GR Yaris to receive the same in-app support in the near future.
