2025 Toyota GR86 Debuts in Japan with Special “Ridge Green Limited” Edition

Toyota has updated the GR86 in Japan, now featuring sharper handling and a slew of minor equipment upgrades.
Despite being deemed too ‘unsafe’ for the European market, the enigmatic Toyota GR86 lives for another year in Japan, as this beloved two-door sportscar is getting a 2025 model year (2025MY) update for its native market.

Toyota promises the 2025mY GR86 to bast a sharper handling performance, thanks to the tweaked damper and power steering setups.
For the 2025MY update, Toyota promises the GR86 to deliver an even more “unique driving feel." To achieve this, Toyota engineers have tweaked both the shock absorbers and the electric power steering control to allow the car to have sharper overall handling.

Special for the 6MT version is the tweaked throttle control for a more direct and linear power delivery. Meanwhile, those who opt for the automatic transmission model will find the gear changes to be smoother and more precise, especially during downshifts.

Besides the ‘essential’ performance upgrades, the new 2025 Toyota GR86 also benefits from a minor equipment upgrade, which includes a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), updated LED headlights now featuring DRLs, and more.
Under the 2025MY GR86 lies the same 2.4-litre 4-cyl naturally-aspirated ‘Boxer’ engine that delivers 234 HP and 250 NM to its rear wheels (RWD) via either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission, plus a rear limited-slip differential (LSD).

2025 Toyota GR86 RZ Ridge Green Limited
To make the 2025MY update a little bit more special, Toyota has also introduced the special ‘RZ Ridge Green Limited’ edition version of the GR86. As its name suggests, this 200-unit-only special is draped in a green hue that looks to be inspired by the British Racing Green used on many legendary British sports cars.

To go along with the striking green hue, the GR86 RZ Ridge Green Limited edition also rolls on bronze-hued 18-inch alloy wheels shod in performance tyres. Not to forget, the interior comes with a unique two-tone bronze and black upholstery that features a blend of suede and leather, plus a special ‘Ridge Green Limited’ bronze embroidery on the door cards.

Currently on sale in its native Japan market, the newly-updated 2025 Toyota GR86 starts at JPY 3.195 million (RM94,488) for the 6MT version, while the six-speed automatic variant is tagged higher at JPY 3.293 million (RM97,386). Those who fancy the special RZ Ridge Green Limited edition need to fork out JPY 3.995 million (RM118,147) to get one, if only they were selected from the ballot selection system.
