During the recent Westport 2 ground breaking ceremony, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will set aside funds to upgrade and maintain the current roadways along Port Klang. This project is in line with the government's plans to upgrade the nation's principal port's amenities and infrastructure.

Anwar also stated that although the idea of constructing new routes to relieve port congestion is being considered, a substantial financial commitment is needed to make it happen.

"Building a new major road will take time. I agree with the proposal, and once I return to the office, I will request a thorough review of it," he said. "For now, we will approve funding to repair the current roads."

Present at the ceremony was Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Executive Chairman of Westport Malaysia Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam Abdullah.

Anwar also stressed in his remarks that as the port grows, management should put the wellbeing of port employees first. "Wages ought to rise in line with increases in productivity. I implore management to see to it that pay is raised in accordance with productivity as we attain higher performance levels."

He also emphasised the more general difficulties that labourers encounter, such as housing, healthcare, and educational opportunities for their kids. "For a successful private sector, these factors must be considered," he stated.
