The police are looking for a BMW owner who fled with upgraded parts and accessories installed at a workshop in Johor Bahru without paying the RM38,000 bill. A mechanic and two employees were injured yesterday when a man drove away from a workshop in Taman Setia Tropika, here, without paying a single cent.
The workshop's 29-year-old mechanic filed a report yesterday, according to Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh, the head of Johor Baru's (north) police force. The owner claimed that a man driving a BMW sent the vehicle to be customized with sports rims, new tires, and other accessories, which resulted in an expense of RM38,000 on Saturday, September 7.
After the agreed-upon price, the 40-year-old left the car, but he returned to the workshop yesterday with another man and asked to take a test drive of the vehicle. The owner of the workshop told his 23-year-old employee to go with the two because he was afraid the customer might leave without paying the bill. Credit: Henna Ooi

The customer reported hearing a knocking sound coming from the boot of the car when they stopped it during the test drive in Taman Bukit Kempas. When the accompanying workshop employee opened the door to investigate the noise, the customer's accomplice sprayed pepper spray and quickly drove away.
According to Balveer, the mechanic who saw the incident tried to stop the suspect at a traffic light junction by clinging to the side mirror of the car, but he nearly got hit. The 29-year-old owner attempted to pursue the BMW driver on a motorcycle in the meantime, but the driver allegedly collided with him.
The owner of the workshop was injured as a result, and his 23-year-old employee experienced eye irritation. In addition to suffering injuries to his knees and wrists, the 29-year-old owner who fell off the motorcycle fractured his right arm.
The total estimated loss is approximately RM43,000, and the case is presently being investigated for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence if found guilty.
Other charges include Section 324 for intentionally causing harm with dangerous weapons and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act of 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. The police are actively tracking the suspects, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
