- BYD Refutes Reports That It Plans To Launch Motorcycles
Following extensive speculation over certain patent drawings, BYD issued a statement refuting its intentions to introduce motorcycles. A Weibo post by BYD's general manager, Li Yunfei, stated that the automaker is not planning to produce motorcycles and is instead concentrating on its core businesses both now and in the future.
The motorcycle design patent drawings were released to the public on September 10. Information and a description of the patent indicate that BYD is the owner, leading to rumors that the manufacturer of NEVs will introduce motorcycles, CNEV said.
Apparently it was just a misunderstanding as the design was made by BYD Electronic, a subsidiary of BYD Motors, for its customers late last year, Li explained.
It wasn't the first time, though, that BYD was linked to motorcycle debuts. Li revealed on May 6th of this year that a number of edited and synthesized videos and articles have been making the rounds on the internet lately, disseminating rumors like "BYD is producing electric bicycles," "BYD is going to launch electric motorcycles," and "BYD is going to make its first motorcycle debut." These rumors have drawn attention from internet users.
With the caption, "It's not that you can't afford a BYD car, but that BYD pedal motorcycles offer better value for money," certain self-media accounts have shared pictures of what they describe as "BYD pedal motorcycles."
Li Yunfei retorted, saying that all of the aforementioned claims were untrue.
