- BYD Set To Take Over German Distributorship From Hedin Mobility Group
BYD Automotive GmbH has finalised a deal with Hedin Mobility Group, enabling the Chinese car maker to directly take over the distribution of its vehicles and spare parts in Germany.
In accordance with this agreement, BYD Automotive GmbH will buy the division of Hedin Electric Mobility GmbH that is in charge of BYD's distribution in Germany. The agreement includes the transfer of two key stores in Stuttgart and Frankfurt, which are currently managed by Hedin Mobility Group’s German retail division.
Hedin Automotive eMobility GmbH will, however, continues to play the roles of Dealer and retailer in Sweden in addition to being an authorised BYD dealer in Germany with three sales locations - Mannheim, Kaiserslautern, and Saarbrücken. Altogether, this solidifies its long-standing relationship with BYD.
According to Stella Li, Executive VP of BYD Company Ltd., "BYD will maintain its current partnerships with German retailers but place more focus towards enhancing customer service and warranty support in Germany as it expands."
Meanwhile, Anders Hedin, CEO & Founder of Hedin Mobility Group added that, “We’ve worked closely with BYD over the past two years to establish a presence in the German market. With this foundation in place, we’re excited to continue our partnership as a dealer and help scale up operations in Germany.”
According to the Electric Cars Report, BYD only sold just over 4,000 units in Germany last year. However, the company is determined to increase these numbers by taking greater control over its distribution.
BYD has set an ambitious goal of achieving 20% annual sales growth, supported by attractive discounts on its electric vehicles. The company’s overseas sales have been strong, with nearly 12% of its total sales in the first seven months of the year coming from international markets, with the UK emerging as a key player.
Currently, the takeover deal is awaiting regulatory approval and is expected to be closed by the fourth quarter of 2024.
