The automotive industry is in a constant state of flux, driven by relentless innovation in new car technology. Car makers are always pushing the boundaries and creating innovations which use automation, digitization, and current technologies to increase productivity, economy and safety.

Even though not everyone uses the technology at their disposal, a lot of it can be useful when needed. A new Ford patent, filed in March 2023 and published on September 19, describes a "unknown cargo detection and evidence collection system" designed to keep vehicle owners from becoming "blind mule" for drug traffickers, according to Motor1.

Since traffickers frequently monitor their victim's location in order to retrieve the contraband on the other side of the border, Ford's system aims to prevent those kinds of shenanigans in a number of ways using a vehicle's various sensors and cameras.
These methods include weighing the vehicle, listening for nearby suspicious activity, and scanning for unfamiliar GPS radio frequencies traveling with the car. web_MBA_Launch_Ford-Ranger-StormTrak_-2-full-(1).jpg

The system will activate the cameras, record the environment, and save the footage as evidence if it notices any unusual activity, such as someone standing too close to the car for an extended period of time.
Furthermore, the addition of any additional weight such as several hundred pounds of drugs will cause the car to drive differently, something that Ford's system would track.
