- Xpeng G6 EV SUV Gains 5-Star Euro NCAP Score
The Xpeng G6 EV SUV has gained a five-star rating for the Euro NCAP crash assessment.
Weeks after making its Malaysian debut, the Xpeng G6 continues to make headlines, as the sporty EV SUV recently gained a five-star rating for the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) crash test.
A little breakdown of the G6’s 5-star Euro NCAP score, the G6 scored a decent 88% out of the possible 100 in the adult occupant protection (AOP) category. The assessment found that the G6 has ‘adequate’ frontal impact prevention, while both the side mobile barrier and side pole test were both rated as ‘good’, although a ‘poor’ rating was given for its side-to-side occupant interaction test.
As for the child occupant protection (COP), the G6 scored 85% out of the possible 100, scoring a ‘good’ rating for both the frontal and lateral impact tests and six out of 12 points in the safety features category.
Meanwhile, a score of 81% was awarded in the vulnerable road users (VRU) category, with 0.3 out of 1 point scored for protection against opening a door into the path of an approaching cyclist, which was only tested for the driver’s side. Full points, however, were awarded to the G6 for the AEB (motorcyclist) and Lane Support (motorcyclist) categories.
Finally, the Xpeng G6 scored 75% in the safety assists category, with an ‘adequate’ rating for speed assistance functions, although a 'marginal’ rating was given for its occupant status monitoring function despite scoring full points for the seatbelt reminder category. 2.5 points of a possible three were given for the lane support category, while 8.3 out of nine points were given for the AEB car-to-car category.
Now available on sale in our market, the Xpeng G6 starts at RM165,000 for the baseline 580 Pro and RM185,000 for the top-spec 755 Pro model. Regardless of variants, all Malaysian-spec G6 EV SUVs are primed with a bevy of active and passive safety features, with the former coming in the form of Xpilot Driving, Xpilot Parking, and Xpilot Safety packages.
These packages grant the G6 several key ADAS functions like Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive Turning Cruise, Active Lane Change, Lane Centering Control, semi-autonomous parking, exit and summon features, 360-degree parking camera with transparent chassis view, Blind Spot Detection and more.
Meanwhile, the passive safety features primed on the G6 include seven airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ABS and ESP, an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold Function plus Hill Descent Control.
