“From remote vehicle management to real-time tracking, these innovations enhance safety, convenience, and performance. The ability to receive updates wirelessly through OTA technology ensures vehicles remain at the cutting edge without any hassle,” said Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani in a statement.
Although OTA updates are not an uncommon feature, they would definitely put Perodua on par with other well-known brands for a company that is primarily known for creating affordable cars. As the automotive industry continues its transition to electrification, Betamek's telematics system, which was created at a time when Perodua is aiming to produce its first domestic EV, also supports smart charging management for EVs, allowing users to schedule charging, locate charging stations, and monitor charging status.
Perodua intends to launch its first BEV by the end of 2025, with a price point of less than RM 100,000. "MITI will assist Perodua in accomplishing its objective," said Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry.
