Works Minister, YB Dato Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced today that all highways nationwide, barring border toll plazas, will provide toll-free access on Oct 29 and 30, 2024 in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali celebration.

The toll exemption period starts from 12:01AM on Tuesday, Oct 29, and ends at 11:59PM on Wednesday, Oct 30. This Deepavali toll waiver is set to cost the government roughly RM38 million, \with compensation provided to all the relevant toll concessionaires. This toll-free arrangement however is only applicable to Class 1 vehicles (private cars).

According to Alexander, the decision to waive toll collection aligns with the core principles of the government, particularly the pillars of Welfare and Compassion aimed at alleviating the cost of living burdens for the people whilst concurrently promoting unity among Malaysia's diverse communities.

Despite the toll free travel period, highway users will still be required to ensure they maintain a functional eWallet and Touch N’ Go card with sufficient balance to tap in and out during their highway travel. This serves as a data collection tool for the compensation to the Highway concessionaires.

Highway users are also advised to:

  • Adhere to the travel time advisory (TTA) issued by highway concessionaires.
  • Ensure vehicles are in good condition before travelling.
  • Utilise the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) CCTV feed via https://www.llm.gov.my for real-time traffic updates.
  • Contact the LLM Traffic Management Center at 1-800-88-7752 for the latest traffic information or assistance on the highway.
  • Stay informed on traffic status or incidents via LLM's official social media channels, including the LLM Facebook page and X @LLMtrafik, which will be updated regularly.

The Works Ministry also urges all road users to drive carefully and adhere to all regulations. Road users are also advised to make use of the R&R and LayBy facilities to combat fatigue.
