Xpeng has launched the P7+ sleek fastback EV saloon in China, featuring up to 725 KM of EV range.

Chinese EV marque Xpeng has finally launched its much-anticipated fastback electric saloon model, the Xpeng P7+. As its name suggests, the new P7+ is essentially the slightly larger version of the Xpeng P7i EV saloon, featuring tons of improvements and space inside out.

Visually, the P7+ stood as a pretty sleek EV saloon with a unique fastback-style roof, combining the stance of a sedan, the practicality of an SUV, and the comfort of an MPV. Up front, this sleek EV saloon gets a sharper look thanks to Xpeng’s new Robo Face design language, featuring LED headlights and a more aggressive front bumper design.

The P7+ gets a pretty dramatic twist from the side, as it has a fastback-style roofline that goes all the way to the tailgate, providing the car with a low drag coefficient rate of 0.206 Cd. At the rear, however, things are quite generic, as the P7+ dons a full-width LED taillight bar with a deck lid rear spoiler—an homage to the iconic fastbacks of the past.

Dimension-wise, the P7+ is no small feat (figuratively and literally), as it measures 5,056 MM long, 1,937 MM wide, 1,512 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 3,000 MM. This puts the P7+ on par with some other large EV saloons, including the Geely Galaxy E8.

Thanks to its MPV-rivalling wheelbase, the Xpeng P7+ gets a pretty spacious cabin decked with tons of tech and comfort amenities. At the front, this EV saloon adopts the same front dash layout as the Xpeng X9 MPV, featuring a 15.6-inch central infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip, a two-spoke steering wheel with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster hiding behind it, as well as a floating central console that houses two cup holders and two 50 W wireless charging pads.

At the back, rear passengers will get a smaller 8-inch central console-mounted infotainment screen that also houses both the climate and seat controls. Besides the roomy second row space, the P7+ also boasts a pretty impressive 725-litre boot space, which can be further expanded to 2,221 litres once the rear seats are down.

Built on the same SEPA 2.0 platform as the G6 SUV, the China-spec P7+ is offered in two powertrain specs, with the baseline getting a single, rear-mounted (RWD) e-motor rated at 241 HP (180 kW), while being juiced by a 60.7-kWh LFP battery pack for up to 620 KM of range, at least according to the lenient CLTC standards. Meanwhile, the top-spec model gets a peppier single-motor setup rated at 308 HP (230 KW), with its larger 76.3-kWh battery pack granting it up to 725 KM of EV range (CLTC).

Flat out, the top-spec Xpeng P7+ can do a 0-100 KM/H sprint in 5.9 seconds, while the baseline model is able to reach the same speed slightly slower at 6.8 seconds.

Beyond that, the new P7+ is also the brand’s first production model to feature Xpeng’s AI Hawk smart driving system. Powered by two Nvidia Orin X chipsets, this ADAS system does not use any LiDAR hardware, where it instead gets a setup comprising 11 cameras, three millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Despite missing a LiDAR, Xpeng claims this AI Hawk system can provide the same level of self-driving capability as its LiDAR-equipped XNGP system.

For its native Chinese market, the all-new Xpeng P7+ is offered in three variants, with prices starting from CNY 186,800 (RM114,417) for the baseline Long Range Max variant, CNY 198,800 (RM121,768) for the mid-spec Ultra Long Range Max, and CNY 218,800 (RM134,018) for the exclusive Limited Edition Max. As of now, there are no indications of whether this sleek fastback EV saloon will make its way to other international markets, although we’d reckon the P7+ has the potential to make some European-badged EV saloons sweat profusely.
