Proton e.mas 7 has been appointed as the official vehicle for the ASEAN 2025, which Malaysia will host next year, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The decision was made after the electric car, which would be the nation's first electric vehicle, was recently introduced. Anwar stated that by making the decision, Malaysia would like to demonstrate to the region the work being done in the automotive ecosystem, particularly in the area of reducing carbon emissions.

On Monday, Proton introduced its first electric car, marking the company's most recent foray into the local market as it looks to boost the use of EVs and hybrid EVs and establish a presence in the international supply chain.

The Malaysian corporation DRB HICOM owns the majority of Proton, while Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a Chinese automaker, owns the remaining 49.9%.

The launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 in Malaysia comes after BYD, Tesla, and Leapmotor. The base variant of the e.MAS 7 will cost RM109,800, while the premium model will cost RM123,800.

By 2030, EVs and hybrids should make up 5% of new automobile sales in Malaysia. It reported that sales of battery electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 112% over the first half of the year.

At the launch, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his hope that the e.MAS 7 would be manufactured in Malaysia in the future, with more local businesses engaging in EV production. web_MA_CariCarz_Proton-e.MAS-7-launch_batch-1_-5-full.jpgCariCarz_SN_Proton-eMAS_Interior-16-full.jpg
