- JPJ Gempur Teknikal Op - 5,306 Notices Issued, 16 Vehicles Seized
According to Ministry of Transport Secretary-General Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan, 5,306 notices were issued from the inspection of 17,729 commercial and public service vehicles during the special technical raid operation called ‘Gempur Teknikal’ conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). The notices included detaining the vehicles, issuing inspection orders, and questioning the operators.
The operation, which spanned five days and ended on Sunday, addressed action against 1,787 vehicles, with 16 seized, 15 of which were commercial vehicles and one a public service vehicle.
Jana Sathiran stated that the JPJ is not looking for faults by issuing notices because their sole goal is to promote road safety and appropriate road conditions, in response to the increasing number of incidents involving commercial vehicles that have occurred recently.
He added that the usage of inappropriate or retreaded tires is a common problem with commercial vehicles and that this was a major area of attention during the operation, which was to make sure the tires and brakes of the vehicles evaluated were in good condition.
“Vehicles will be stopped from continuing their journey if violations are found. During earlier checks, we observed several vehicles using retreaded tyres with the outer layer nearly peeling off. This could pose a significant danger to road users if these tyres come off while on the road. This is precisely the situation we aim to prevent,” he said.
For the record, the JPJ has deployed around 1,500 personnel to boost enforcement of trade-related offences such as overloading, technical issues, documentation, and traffic breaches, particularly during the holiday season.
