- Proton X70 Leads C-Segment SUV Sales as Nov Sales Hit 12,194 Units
Proton has reported a total sales of 12,194 units (domestic and export) in the month of November this year, marking a 4.7% decline as compared to October. This decline correlated the overall contraction in the Malaysian automotive sector, which saw a 4.1% drop in total industry volume (TIV).
However, year-to-date (YTD) sales for the national carmaker have reached 137,751 units, solidifying Proton’s position as the second most popular automotive brand in Malaysia. The company’s market share for November stands at an estimated 18.2%, contributing to a projected YTD market share of 18.8% for 2024.
Despite the dip in November, the Malaysian automotive sector has registered a YTD TIV of approximately 731,026 units, nearly 10,000 units ahead of the same period in 2023. With the market on track to surpass 800,000 units by year end - a new record for the second consecutive year further cementing its status as the second-largest passenger vehicle market in ASEAN for 2024.
Proton continues to lead in several segments as the facelifted Proton X70 reclaimed its spot as the best-selling C-segment SUV in November, with 1,065 units sold (YTD sales: 7,536 units), reflecting a 7.7% increase month-on-month.
Meanwhile, the Proton X90, the brand's flagship D-segment SUV, maintained its segment lead with 277 units sold in November (YTD sales: 3,246 units), showing a 13.1% growth from October. The Proton S70 also emerged as the leader in the D-segment sedan category, with 1,312 units sold in November (YTD sales: 17,512 units).
As for the Proton X50, it remains the brand’s best-selling SUV, with 1,911 units sold in November (YTD sales: 21,033 units).
Other models from the brand also showed strong performance, including the Proton Saga, which achieved 5,916 sales in November (YTD total: 66,094 units). The Proton Persona, another B-segment model, registered 1,394 units in November (YTD sales: 17,325 units), while the Proton Iriz, the brand’s B-segment hatchback, sold 319 units (YTD total: 4,762 units).
