- Red Light Offences - 95,000 Summonses Issued
The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, recently announced a crackdown on red-light running which is a serious traffic offense.
Nationwide, a staggering 95,298 summonses were issued, with car drivers receiving the most at 44,889, followed by motorcyclists at 39,468, lorry drivers 3,937 and others 7,004.
He further noted that JSPT is taking a zero-tolerance stance and will increase enforcement at key intersections, through the use of CCTV surveillance. JSPT is also working with local authorities to ensure stricter penalties for violators under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Yusri emphasized the importance of responsible road behavior, especially as Malaysia is about to chair the ASEAN meetings in 2025. He urged drivers to prioritize safety over speed and avoid the temptation to run red lights.
With concerted efforts from enforcement agencies and cooperation from the public, JSPT aims to significantly reduce accidents caused by traffic rule violations, especially at major intersections.
