The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) is stepping up enforcement against illegal taxi operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2 in light of Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN 2025 chairmanship.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the country’s image and ensure a seamless experience for international visitors. According to Selangor JPJ Director, Azrin Borhan, 201 individuals have been detained for operating unlicensed or illegal taxi services targeting foreign nationals at the nation’s key entry points.

He also went on to add that undercover operations are conducted from time to time, adding that the department has successfully reduced the presence of taxi touts at KLIA and will further strengthen enforcement this year.

On a separate note, Azrin also disclosed that inspection of buses in Selangor in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festivities had recorded 34 violations from checks on 1,701 buses. Violations included the absence of a second driver during long-haul trips, continuous driving in the right lane, cracked windshields, and worn-out tyres.

Of these, 25 individuals faced action for various offences discovered during inspections at depots and bus terminals across the state.

The intensified enforcement measures at KLIA, KLIA2 and across bus terminals in Selangor reflect JPJ’s commitment to public safety and quality assurance in public transport services. With the ASEAN 2025 chairmanship approaching, such efforts are expected to contribute to a safer and more reliable transportation network for both locals and international visitors.
