JPJ Ops Sepadu: Over 2,300 Vehicles Inspected, 340 Notices Issued
JPJ WPKL conducted Ops Sepadu last weekend in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city centre on Saturday evening.
Ahead of the festive Chinese New Year celebrations and holidays, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducted a major operation in the nation’s capital last weekend.
Called Ops Sepadu, the operation was carried out on Saturday evening by enforcers from the department’s Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (WPKL) office. In its official Facebook statement, the department noted that up to 2,380 vehicles were inspected during said operation held on Saturday night.
JPJ WPKL director Hamidi Adam confirmed that 2,380 vehicles were inspected through Saturday's operation, leading to 340 notices issued and 11 vehicles seized.
From which, a total of 340 notices were issued over various offences. The most common offence recorded here included driving without a valid driving licence, driving with an expired road tax, driving without valid insurance coverage, and more.
Additionally, the operation also yielded 11 vehicle seizures – both cars and motorcycles. Of which, eight were two-wheelers that were to have expired road taxes, their riders lacking valid licences and insurance coverage, as well as extreme and illegal modifications.
Besides enforcement, officers were also on hand to provide counselling and advise to motorists, reminding them to obey traffic laws and regulations.
Concurrently, enforcers carrying out the operation also provided counselling and advise to motorcyclist to obey traffic laws and regulations as an effort to lower accident, injury and death rates during festive celebration periods.
“In line with the government’s road safety campaign, the operation aims to raise public awareness, particularly during the upcoming festive season,” explained JPJ WPKL director Hamidi Adam to press shortly after concluding the operation on Saturday evening.
Hamidi adds that the operation detailed will continue until Feb 9 in light of the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities.
Hamidi additionally continued by urging local employers to ensure their foreign workers possess valid work permits and driving licences. That’s because the same operation saw the Immigration Department present for which detecting 37 illegal immigrants and conducting 17 arrests.
Apart from Saturday’s operation in Kuala Lumpur, Hamidi also highlighted that last week, JPJ WPKL inspected a total of 804,436 vehicles and penalised 915 motorists from which over various offences. He also confirmed the operation detailed will continue to be carried out until Feb 9.
