Mazda celebrates the 35th anniversary of the legendary MX-5 Miata roadster with a special edition model.

The beloved Mazda MX-5 Miata is turning 35 this year, and what better way to celebrate its near-fourth decade anniversary than having a special edition model. Debuted at the 2025 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race last weekend, the Mazda MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary Edition is based on the US market’s Grand Touring variant, featuring an assortment of special touches and parts.

From the get-go, you’ll notice that this special Miata comes draped in an exclusive Artisan Red metallic colourway. This special hue is matched with a beige soft top roof, while both the special serialised badge and the 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels also help to differentiate the 35th Anniversary Edition model from the standard MX-5.

To go with the beige soft-top, Mazda has also equipped the special Miata with tan-hued Nappa leather upholstery and floor mats, plus several contrasting Artisanal Red trims to match the exterior paint job. Other special bits primed here include the 35th anniversary embossing on the headrests, a special Bose audio system with built-in headrest speakers, a large 8.8-inch central infotainment display that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and many more.

Predictably, the special Miata boasts no upgrades on the powertrain front, as it gets the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl nat-asp Skyactiv-G engine that outputs 181 HP and 205 NM as the standard Grand Touring variant. Said engine is exclusively connected to a six-speed manual transmission, which facilitates power delivery to the rear wheels (RWD) via a limited-slip differential (LSD).

What’s special for the 35th anniversary model are the sport-tuned Bilstein dampers and a shock tower brace, which promises to further improve the ride and handling on this already sublime sportscar.

With only 300 units produced, the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary Edition retails at $36,250 (RM158,620), making it slightly more expensive than the US-spec MX-5 Grand Touring variant it is based on, which retails from $34,630 (RM151,532). For reference, the JDM version of the MX-5 (or Roadster) is retailed from JPY 3.753 million (RM105,226) onwards, with the celebratory model available in both 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre versions in the Japanese market.
