A recent Road Transport Department (JPJ) report revealed that over RM806.9 million in summonses, issued between 2010 and October 2024, remain unpaid. These summonses, numbering over 6 million, were issued for various traffic offenses, including speeding, running red lights, and disobeying traffic regulations.
According to Utusan Malaysia, last year saw the highest number of unpaid summonses at RM286,209,440. This was followed by RM203.38 million in 2023, RM86.88 million in 2022, RM29.98 million in 2021, and RM8.86 million in 2020.  During this period, the JPJ issued over 26 million summonses for various traffic violations and collected over RM2.3 billion in income. According to JPJ Director General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, who was cited by Utusan Malaysia, the department imposes limitations on drivers who have unpaid summonses, such as preventing them from renewing their driver's license or vehicle road tax.

Aedy noted that the department plans to offer a new function to the MyJPJ app to notify users of any outstanding summonses. For those with outstanding summonses, JPJ is presently giving a RM150 flat rate compound for traffic offences until June 30, 2025.
