- Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Sets EV Lap Record at Attack Tsukuba 2025
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) Spec has smashed the EV lap record at Japan’s Attack Tsukuba 2025 motorsport event. It clocked a blistering 57.446 seconds around the legendary Tsukuba Circuit.
This time is nearly two seconds faster than the next closest EV competitor, the Tesla Model 3 Plaid. The Ioniq 5 N TA was piloted by renowned Japanese driver Nobuteru Taniguchi during this record-breaking run.
“Driving the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec at Attack Tsukuba 2025 was a privilege,” said Taniguchi. “The car’s braking and handling are exceptional. Despite its power, it stays under control with impressive cornering stability. I felt confident pushing it to the limit.”
In addition to the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec, Taniguchi also piloted five other time attack machines in various categories, including the factory Toyota GR Yaris, HKS Toyota GR86, Assist Kyoto BMW M4, APR Audi TTRS, and Garage G-Force GR Yaris.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is a factory tuned version of Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, designed to demonstrate the production model’s capabilities with minimal modifications.
Key upgrades include increased maximum output of 678HP (boosted by 36HP over the standard model), N Active Sound+ with 120 dB speakers, motorsport-grade brakes and reworked shock absorbers.
The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec also sports 18-inch Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires, a high-downforce aerodynamic package, a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, a Sabelt six-point safety harness, a PPIHC-spec roll cage, and an EV fire suppression system.
This car however retains the standard Hyundai Ioniq N’s high-performance power electronics (PE) system, motors, battery, and control electronics. The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec previous achievement was the record set at the 2024 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb - modified production electric SUV category.
Besides this, Hyundai Mobility Japan, had recently previewed the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition which features a high-performance parts package developed with Autobacs Seven and Japanese racing legend, the “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya.
Hyundai plans to bring the DK Edition N Performance Parts package to market, offering Ioniq 5 N owners even more performance enhancements for both road and track.
