- Malaysian Vehicle Sales Down by 40% in Jan 2025 – MAA
The Malaysian Automotive Association has recorded a 40% decrease in vehicle sales for Jan 2025, with 48,875 units delivered.
The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has published the vehicle sales data for Jan 2025, where the local automotive market has delivered a total of 48,875 units in said month alone. This figure, however, represents a 40.2% drop in vehicle sales compared to the record-breaking 81,735 units set in Dec last year.
The association explained that part of the reason for this decline is due to the short working days in Jan 2025, which stemmed from the Chinese New Year festivities. Not to forget, last year’s record-breaking sales figure in December has also contributed to this decline, where vehicle sales were boosted by numbers of year-end promotions and bargains made by numerous car brands.
Year-to-year, the Jan 2025 sales figure is also 27% lower than what was set in the same month last year at 66,923 units.
With barely a month into 2025, MAA has reiterated that the 780,000 TIV forecast for this year is still unchanged. On that note, the association also expected sales to pick up again for Feb 2025, aided by the rush for sales by car companies before their financial year-end close on March 31, as well as the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations next month.
