- New Volvo ES90 EV Saloon Teased Ahead of March 5 Debut
Geely-owned Swedish marque Volvo is gearing up to expand its latest-generation 90-series flagship model range. Set to join alongside the EX90 next month is a sleek, low-slung ES90 all-electric saloon twin.
Of course, that’s not all. Like the EX90, which is accompanied with a heavily refreshed XC90, the ES90 will also usher in a similarly revised S90 combustion (ICE)-powered twin alongside it, which will debut at the same time too.
Note the roof-mounted LiDar sensor that's identical to what's brimmed as the EX90.
Ahead of which, Volvo has released a series of new teaser images for the upcoming ES90. Though Volvo didn’t reveal it fully, there are several notable details to note still, like the massive roof-mounted LiDar sensor – the same as what’s brimmed in the EX90.
Up front, the ES90 will sport Volvo’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlight arrangement as seen in the EX90, so we can perhaps expect a similar grille design too. What is notable is the new split taillight arrangement design, which is slightly different from Volvo’s norm.
Underneath, the ES90 will underpin the SPA2 architecture as the EX90, and this saloon will be the brand’s first to feature dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin setup to grant high core computing capacity. The same is coming to the EX90, with existing customers gaining it as a free upgrade.
As for powertrain, expect the ES90 to harness a similar setup as the EX90. As a refresher, Volvo’s flagship EV SUV packs a sizeable 111 kWh (107 kWh useable) NMC-type battery pack juicing a dual-motor setup outputting up to 402 HP and 770 NM.
With that, expect the ES90 to also share the same 11 kW AC and 250 kW DC charging capabilities, the latter promising 10-80% re-charges in just 30 minutes. Certainly, we can expect the lighter, sleeker ES90 to better EX90’s claimed WLTP-rated 600 KM range too.
We’ll have more on both the new ES90 and its ICE-powered S90 twin once they debut next month. In the meantime, what else do you folks expect from Volvo through its upcoming flagship EV saloon? Share your take in the comments below…
