Malaysia-based charge point operator (CPO) EV Connection (EVC) reached a significant milestone recently as it successfully installed its first Tesla Powerwalls for customers in neighbouring Thailand.

This achievement, carried out by its Thailand office team, marks a step forward in promoting sustainable energy solutions and advanced home energy storage technology in the region.

The Tesla Powerwall is a home energy storage system designed to enhance energy efficiency, provide backup power during outages, and integrate with solar energy systems.

As a rechargeable lithium-ion battery system, it allows homeowners to store electricity, ensuring a reliable power supply even during grid disruptions where it can automatically switch to stored energy, maintaining the operation of essential household appliances.

A key feature of the Powerwall is its ability to integrate with solar panels, enabling users to store excess solar energy for later use. This supports increased renewable energy consumption and reduces reliance on the grid.

Additionally, the system includes time-of-use load shifting, which allows users to store electricity when rates are lower and use it during peak hours — an approach that could become more relevant in Malaysia as discussions on time-based electricity pricing continue.

The Tesla Powerwall also offers remote monitoring and control through the Tesla app, giving users real-time insights into their energy consumption and production. Its sleek and compact design allows for both indoor and outdoor installation, providing flexibility in placement.

Each unit has a storage capacity of 13.5 kWh, with the option to expand by adding multiple units as needed.

EVC’s deployment of the Tesla Powerwall in Thailand highlights a growing interest in sustainable energy solutions across the region. While the system is currently unavailable in Malaysia, EVC is assessing local consumer interest as it explores potential expansion.
