Puspakom inspection slot scalping has recently been more prevalent, with runners taking advantage of the system to make repeated appointments and levy ridiculous fees.

Alvin Choong, the secretary-general of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Lorry Operators Association, has cited Puspakom's involvement in this situation.

Puspakom, according to Alvin as the entity in charge of car inspections and keeping track of chassis numbers, is being used by these runners to gain a huge number of slots, which they then resale at exorbitant prices, he says.

Alvin also argued against assigning blame to agents or middlemen, stating that Puspakom's function as the inspection authority requires them to accept full responsibility for the inspection process.

“Come out with solutions to stop such alleged malpractices instead of pointing fingers elsewhere,” he said when contacted by The Star yesterday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke recently warned that bus and truck operators should refrain from utilising third-party runners for vehicle inspections because they frequently take advantage of the system and compromise the integrity of inspection facilities. “Do not use runners to carry out inspections. They are the ones taking money,” he said.
