- Toyota Teases New EV Pick-Up Truck, Debuts In 2026
Besides the new and refreshed EV models launched this week, Toyota also teased three new EV offerings that are coming soon. Included here is an EV pick-up truck, as well as two SUVs.
It’s a busy week for Japanese automaker Toyota as it unveiled its refreshed bZ4X crossover plus its sporty new C-HR+ twin, not forgetting the upgraded Lexus RZ featuring a sporty new variant. For the same occasion, Toyota also elected to tease three other new EV models too.
Firstly, the Japanese automaking giant will debut a new electric (EV) pick-up truck offering next year (2026). Notably, this new EV pick-up truck appears totally unrelated and separate from the electric Hilux concept that’s currently being developed in Thailand and Indonesia – this was also shown locally during its ‘Beyond Zero’ expo some time back.
The teased silhouette differs greatly from the Hilux BEV Concept that's currently being developed in Thailand and Australia.
Alongside it too were two other silhouettes of upcoming EV SUV models that are set to follow suit after the new EV pick-up truck mentioned. One of which could possibly be a three-row SUV offering that saw delayed development.
Sources online speculate that this new EV pick-up truck that Toyota is developing could be a production-ready Tacoma EV, inspired by a 2021 concept. Although, given that the Tacoma nameplate isn’t used in Europe, this could also signal a production version of the EPU Concept from 2023 instead, which is a compact EV pick-up that’s due for entry into key markets like South America in 2027.
One speculation is that the new EV pick-up truck teased could be the production version of the 2023 Toyota EPU Concept - a compact EV pick-up truck previously tipped to enter key markets starting in 2027.
“These three parts [of the EV strategy] will focus on enhancing the customer’s lifestyle just as powerfully as they enhance our carbon neutrality goals,” hinted Toyota Motor Europe president and chief executive Yoshihiro Nakata.
For now, technical details about this new EV truck from Toyota remain a mystery, though it’s also conceivable that it – along with the two other SUVs teased alongside – could underpin Toyota’s existing platforms and perhaps use the same e-motors as the bZ4X and C-HR+ mentioned.
Presumably, we can expect more details to surface as this new Toyota EV pick-up truck nears it debut date sometime next year. Until then, your guesses are as good as ours.
