- VW, FAW Venture Will Launch 11 New Models In China From 2026
Volkswagen Group and China's FAW Group have established a strategic partnership to debut 11 new car models under the Volkswagen and Jetta brands starting in 2026 and going until 2030. This new venture will include 10 new energy vehicles and 1 internal combustion engine model, Bloomberg has reported.
Volkswagen's Jetta brand is set to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) in 2026, targeting the entry-level EV market. FAW-Volkswagen will utilize the locally developed CMP (China Main Platform) vehicle platform to meet consumer demand for both BEV and PHEV vehicles.
Volkswagen's new models will include high-performance digital features, such as autonomous driving and over-the-air updates. The carmaker also announced that future internal-combustion engine, plug-in hybrid, and extended-range models will benefit from its engine innovations, in addition to electrification, the automaker said in a statement.
The firm is working to reclaim market share that has been lost to domestic manufacturers like BYD Co, which prioritises the rapid manufacturing of technology-rich electric vehicles popular with Chinese consumers.
The German automobile group, which includes brands such as Audi, Skoda, and Porsche, saw a dip in global deliveries in the previous year, with a 9.5% drop in China. This decrease might be linked to increased market competition and ongoing economic issues that affect consumer spending.
