‘Hotter’ New Toyota GR Corolla Teased, Debuts Later This Year
Toyota Gazoo Racing have teased this camouflaged prototype of an upcoming new and 'hotter' version of its GR Corolla rally-bred hot hatch.
The Toyota GR Corolla rally-bred hot-hatch is set to see a ‘hotter’ new version debut later this year. Ahead of which, the Japanese automaker has elected to ‘tease’ this it through the camouflaged prototype pictured.
Developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), the prototype sports a handful of track-focused upgrades inside and out. While not immediately obvious, closer inspection confirms a more aggressive aerokit, a significantly larger rear wing, redesigned side gills, and new vents in the bonnet and front fenders.
Closer inspection sees this upcoming GR Corolla version sporting a more aggressive aerokit complete with a large new rear wing.
Aside from enhanced aerodynamics, TGR says this new GR Corolla will also benefit with “a bump in torque and unique tuning” to make it even more capable on track. Toyota didn’t mention a power increase, meaning that the 1.6-litre 3-cyl turbo mill might retain its 300 HP figure.
Adding to that is the fact that the recent 2025 model year upgrades for the GR Corolla – and its GR Yaris sibling – have benefited with both power and torque increases - the latter is now rated at 400 NM - from said 3-cyl heart, which also gained a new 8-speed automatic transmission option alongside its existing 6-speed manual box.
Expect other track-focused upgrades such as beefed up suspension tuning, and perhaps a rear seat delete option a la the previous Morizo Edition special.
Toyota didn’t specify further details, but the promise of this being a more track-focused machine does mean we can expect beefed up suspension tuning, and perhaps a rear seat delete option as seen in the previous Morizo Edition special.
Notably, this new and hotter GR Corolla variant will be subjected to a final test-drive by none other than Akio Toyoda himself. In other words, engineers over at TGR have their hands full indeed when it comes to finalising this new GR Corolla model.
Current 2025MY version of the Toyota GR Corolla brimmed with the 6-speed manual box launched by UMWT earlier this year priced at RM367,000. The new 8AT version is supposedly set to arrive at a later stage.
Whilst this hotter new version will take a while still to materialise, you can still order the updated 2025MY version detailed now. As a refresher, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) officially launched the peppier 2025MY version mentioned earlier this year tagged at RM367,000.
