From 2004 to December of last year, 35,551 accidents occurred on the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), resulting in 730 fatalities.
This data was reported by Datuk Razali Kassim, Chairman of the Pahang Works, Transport and Health Committee, in response to inquiries made by Datuk Wong Tat Chee, a member of the Pahang State Legislative Assembly, regarding accident statistics and hotspots along the LPT1.
Razali stated that while there are no designated blackspots on LPT1, there are a number of areas where accidents happen often. Muhammad-Kifli-Ma-Hassan.-(80).pngMuhammad-Kifli-Ma-Hassan.-(81).png

“Improvement measures have been taken to reduce the risk of accidents at such locations, including at Kilometre (KM) 238.7 (westbound) and KM87 (westbound),” he said in a Bernama report.

Furthermore, Razali confirmed that the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) utilizes the Malaysia Highway Road Accident Analysis & Database System (MHROADS) to perform annual analyses to pinpoint accident-prone areas. This enables the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures to reduce risks at those locations.

“The effectiveness of the mitigation measures will be monitored to ensure that the accident rate can be reduced,” he says, adding that AFA Prime Berhad, the company in charge of LPT1's operation and maintenance, would continue to conduct road safety audits, safety campaigns, and user advocacy sessions, as well as provide timely and clear information and public announcements.
