National automaker Proton revealed via its PRO-NET arm earlier today the latest bookings and deliveries figures for the Proton e.MAS 7.

According to the firm, Proton’s landmark first electric vehicle (EV) has garnered over 5,500 bookings since its Dec 16 launch.

PRO-NET adds that customer deliveries for the e.MAS 7 have also surpassed 1,800 units now. This also sees the e.MAS 7 stand as a market leader in Malaysia’s EV segment.

Additionally,  JPJ registration data shows that 1,738 units of the e.MAS 7, which Proton co-developed with partners Geely, were registered within the first quarter (Q1) of this year alone.

Presently, this EV crossover SUV offering from Proton, which comes in two variants, is priced at RM105,800 (Prime) and RM119,800 (Premium).

The success of the e.MAS 7 can be attributed to a combination of worldwide EV expertise and in-depth local knowledge, according to PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang. The exec also noted that this is only the start of Proton's journey to shape the country's EV environment. “We’ve introduced a vehicle that reflects the needs and aspirations of Malaysian drivers — practical, high-performing, and ready for everyday life,” remarked Zhang. Additionally, Proton's deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah previously confirmed that the company plans to launch another new e.MAS model by the end of the year. The new Proton EV is projected to be called the e.MAS 5, and it will be based on the Geely Xingyuan

Notably, unlike its upcoming Perodua-built rival, the exec also hinted clearly that the high voltage battery will be included in the upcoming model’s selling price, and that no battery leasing is required.
