- Road Users in Johor Now Eligible for Damage Compensation
Road users involved in accidents caused by damaged roads in Johor are now eligible to claim compensation from authorities.
Road users involved in any accidents caused by damaged roads in Johor are now eligible to claim compensation from the relevant authorities, said the Johor state government. As reported by the New Straits Times (NST), this compensation can now be made after one motorist was recently awarded more than RM700,000 in damages due to driving on poor road conditions in the state.
Johor's executive councillor for Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications, Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, said while victims of damaged roads can now stake their claims for compensation, they must be supported by clear evidence and complete documentation.
"If an accident occurs or a vehicle is damaged due to road defects, road users can submit a claim to the concession company responsible for maintaining the route," he told NST.
Should these accidents ever occur, motorists are advised to provide photographs of the accident and vehicle damage, images of the road condition, the location and time of the incident, a police report, and any relevant receipts.
Additionally, victims can then submit a formal letter to any relevant and appropriate authorities, such as the local council, the Public Works Department (JKR), or the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), Fazli added when answering the inquiry made by Kota Inskandar state assemblyman (ADUN) YB Datuk Pandak Ahmad.
Prior to this, the Johor Bahru Sessions Court recently awarded a sum of RM721,000 in compensation after a motorist suffered losses linked to road damage.
