- Loke: Platform Guardrails Will Be Installed at All Train Stations
Transport Minister Anthony Loke has announced plans to install platform guardrails at all train stations nationwide to improve passenger safety.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Loke said such safety features have already been implemented at newer MRT stations and along the KL Monorail line. However, many stations - particularly those along the Ampang LRT line - still lack this crucial infrastructure.
“I have requested Prasarana to proceed with installing guardrails at all stations,” he said, referring to the operator of Rapid KL services. “We are making this a priority to enhance security at all stations.”
Loke acknowledged that the installation would require a significant budget and that funding remains a major hurdle. “It all boils down to the budget,” he said, adding that Prasarana is currently preparing for the project, though no specific timeline has been set.
His remarks came in the wake of a fatal incident at the Pusat Bandar Puchong LRT station on June 3, where a man in his 60s, identified as a Taiwanese national, fell onto the tracks and was struck by a train. Emergency services confirmed the man died at the scene.
The incident caused temporary suspension of train services between Bandar Puteri, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Pusat Bandar Puchong, and IOI Puchong Jaya stations. Services resumed later that evening.
Loke also confirmed that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident would be handed over to the police to assist with the investigation.
