Ahead of the planned takeover, Hyundai Motor Malaysia has just launched its new social media pages.

In case you missed it, Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) is planning to take over the Hyundai brand operations in Malaysia from the current operator, Hyundai Sime Darby Motors (HSDM). As part of this principal takeover, the automaker, now known as Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY), has just launched its new official social media pages, covering major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and many more.

Posted on some of these social media pages is a short video with a caption that reads, “Annyeonghaseyo, Malaysia! A new era begins—we are here and ready to drive forward into the future with you. Follow us for all things Hyundai.”

The establishment of these social media pages could mark the completion of the Hyundai brand takeover in Malaysia by HMC, with said move initially mooted late last year, when the automaker announced a huge RM2.16 billion investment into Malaysia.

Said investment will involve a strategic partnership between HMC and local independent assembler Inokom, where the Korean automaker is looking to expand Inokom’s current Kulim CKD plant over a period of six years. This expansion project will also include the establishment of a new EV battery assembly plant in Kulim, and six models—including a Genesis—are poised to call this new facility their new home.

Prior to this, we previously reported that HMY is now listed on the Hyundai global website as the official representative for the Hyundai brand in Malaysia. To go with this, the contact information has also been updated to HMY, including the address of its new Malaysian office.

As for the fate of HSDM, it seems like Sime Motors will continue its role as contract assemblers for locally assembled Hyundai models like the Santa Fe, while at the same time acting as the brand’s importer for fully imported (CBU) models. Not to mention, both HSDM and Sime Motors also will continue to act as an authorised dealer and service provider for Hyundai vehicles here in Malaysia.
