Police drones are actively monitoring and catching motorcyclists who violate traffic regulations.

Yesterday, the Bukit Aman Air Operations Force (PGU), in collaboration with Petaling Jaya IPD division deployed drones on the Federal Highway to track down riders straying from their designated lanes.

These summonses were given both to motorists who were stopped directly and based on drone footage, which will be further documented with traffic reports to create a comprehensive record of the operation.

"Even though these offenders think they’ve escaped today, drones have actually captured their registration numbers and summonses will be sent to them under POL 170A for further action,” he says in a Bernama report.

Shahrulnizam highlighted that motorcyclists account for a substantial 70% of traffic deaths, driving the need for this targeted enforcement action.

He also pointed out a worrisome surge in motorcycle accidents on the Federal Highway, within the Petaling Jaya police area.

This year, according to Shahrulnizam, has seen 204 such incidents, marking a 35.1% rise of 53 cases from the 151 reported the previous year.

"For this district, 52 deaths were recorded last year, while this year, 34 deaths have already been recorded as of May.
