- Geely EX5 Now Offered With Lifetime Battery Warranty In Indonesia
The Geely EX5, the Proton e.MAS 7's twin in Indonesia, is now offered with a special lifetime warranty, but it's not exactly how'd you'd imagine it...

Some news from across the Malacca Strait, and it sees Geely Auto Indonesia making headlines lately with a special new promotion for the Geely EX5. As a refresher, said model is the Geely-badged twin to what’s marketed locally as the Proton e.MAS 7.
This week, Geely Auto Indonesia announced a new ‘EXceptional Value Deals’ package for the EV SUV model mentioned. One headlining perk here is a special ‘lifetime battery warranty’ offer. Whilst this sounds exceptional, there are string attached to it.
As a refresher, the Proton e.MAS 7 is offered by Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET) locally with an 8-year or 160,000 KM EV battery warranty – a relatively common year-and-mileage combination offered by most automakers with EVs in the local market, in fact.
In contrast, Geely Auto Indonesia’s offer of a lifetime EV battery coverage for the EX5 has several limitations. For reference, the firm does offer Indonesian buyers with a regular 8-year or 180,000 KM warranty for the EV battery, e-motor and control unit for the EX5.
Geely Auto Indonesia already offers the EX5 with a regular warranty covering the EV battery over an 8-year or 180,000 KM period.

Firstly, there’s an annual mileage cap of 30,000 KM, which in turn translates to 2,500 KM of average monthly use. Secondly and, predictably, this lifetime coverage is also reserved solely for the first owner of the EX5 – it’s not transferrable in the event of ownership change.
We’ll add that the special coverage includes a clause that prompts a battery change should its state of health (SoH) fall below 70%.

The special lifetime warranty does come with a few strings, such as a 30,000 KM annual mileage cap.

Apart from special warranties, the 'EXceptional Value Deals’ promotion for buyers in this republic neighbouring ours includes a free portable charger, a 7 kW wallbox or OEM accessories package, 0% first year interest rates, 2GB free data, and more.
Clearly, this promotion is tailored especially for Indonesian EV buyers which, when contrasted against typical EV buyers here in Malaysia, have starkly different priorities and usage trends – EVs are unlikely to see heavy use over long distance driving there.

Whilst not offered with a lifetime EV battery warranty, the Proton e.MAS 7 that was recently updated locally does come with a reassuring 8-year or 160,000 KM EV battery warranty instead.

As a refresher, the Geely EX5 was launched in Indonesia back in Jan this year with two variants on offer – base ‘Pro’ and higher-end ‘Max’. Both share the same 60.22 kWh LFP battery pack that juices a front-mounted e-motor putting out 218 PS and 320 NM.
Moreover, trial local production (CKD) for the Geely EX5 in Indonesia also began in May, with full-blown mass-production set to take off sometime in the fourth-quarter (Q4) this year.
Given what we just detailed, would you be keen on the Proton e.MAS 7 here if principals PRO-NET were to offer a similar but ‘limited’ lifetime EV battery warranty for it as how counterparts Geely Auto Indonesia has? Hit the comments below with your take…
