The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has begun blacklisting foreign drivers who fail to pay their AWAS summons starting July 1, according to JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

The move relies on Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) data, with Singapore-registered vehicles among those affected. Drivers will be given a 60-day grace period to settle their fines before the blacklist takes effect.

"Those who fail to do so within the stipulated period will be blacklisted automatically by the department’s system," he said.

Aedy Fadly also announced that the JPJ has extended its RM150 flat-rate summons offer until the end of this year.

The offer, according to him, applies to three types of offences: Notice 114 (interview notice), Notice 115 (affixed summons), and AWAS (Automated Awareness Safety System) summonses.

The JPJ DG shared that while some progress has been made, a massive number of summonses remain unpaid. Of the over 1.9 million AWAS notices issued, only about 412,000 have been settled so far.

For Notice 114, fewer than 25,000 have been cleared, with more than 311,000 still pending. As for Notice 115, just under 6,000 have been paid, leaving over 171,000 unresolved, according to him.

“The public is encouraged to take advantage of this extended offer by settling their outstanding summonses before the offer period ends on December 31," he added
