Transport Minister Anthony Loke has urged those planning to attend tomorrow’s Turun Anwar rally at Dataran Merdeka to utilise public transportation to help ease congestion in the city centre.

He assured that all rail and bus services will continue operating as usual, allowing the public to carry out their weekend plans with minimal disruption.

Loke said the government recognises the right to peaceful assembly, even when organised by groups critical of the administration. “We must not go back to a time when democracy was suppressed and Parliament silenced,” he said.

He also reminded Klang Valley commuters that the subsidised MY50 travel pass can now be renewed through the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app, and that the RM6 MyCity Pass is expected to be fully digitised by year-end.

Loke repeated his call for rally-goers to rely on public transport to help maintain smooth traffic flow across the capital.

Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has announced that several key roads in Kuala Lumpur may face diversions due to the rally.

Among the routes that could be affected are Jalan Maharajalela, Jalan Kinabalu, Bulatan Sultan Mohamad, Bulatan Dato’ Onn, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Perak, and Jalan Lebuh Ampang.

Other roads that may see disruptions include Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Raja, Jalan Hishamudin, Jalan Lebuh Pasar Besar, and Jalan Hang Kasturi.

Acting KL Police Chief Datuk Mohd Usuf Jan Mohd said the rally could cause significant congestion in the city centre. He said vehicle diversions will only be activated if necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.

The rally is expected to begin from five main locations, Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, and Kompleks Sogo before converging at Dataran Merdeka.

The public is advised to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with traffic police stationed at affected areas. Mohd Usuf echoed Loke’s call, encouraging all participants and commuters to use public transport to avoid delays.
