The Malaysian-bound Jaecoo J5 EV has just debuted in Thailand, priced from THB 549,000 (RM71,000 est.) onwards.

Days after making its European debut in the UK, the Jaecoo J5 EV SUV has just made its debut in Thailand. Two variants of the J5 EV are offered in the Land of Smiles, with its promotional prices starting at THB 549,000 (RM71,339) for the Long Range Dynamic and THB 599,000 (RM77,836) for the top-spec Long Range Max.

Simply known as the Jaecoo 5 EV instead of J5 EV or Jaecoo E5, the Thai-spec model gets a slightly different configuration from its UK counterpart, where both variants use the same 58.9-kWh battery pack that provides up to 461 km of NEDC range. Similar to other J5 EVs, the Thai model accepts both 80 kW DC and 11 kW AC charging methods.

Power is provided by a single, front-mounted (FWD) electric motor rated at 211 PS and 288 Nm, enabling a decent century sprint time of 7.7 seconds before hitting the limiters at 175 km/h.

In terms of visuals, both variants of the Thai-spec J5 EV get the same exterior bits, with key highlights including 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 235/55 tyres, a grill-less front face with slim rectangle LED headlights, the EV badge at the rear to differentiate it from the ICE-powered J5, and many more. That said, the Max variant does come with foldable side mirrors and roof rails, and those are the only two differences we can spot.

More differences between the Dynamic and Max can be found inside, where the top-spec model gets several additional bits like six speakers, a panoramic sunroof, a powered sunshade, a power tailgate, 64-colour ambient lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and door cards, powered and ventilated front seats, and a larger 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, as opposed to the 9-inch unit primed on the Dynamic.

On top of that, the Max variant also gets additional ADAS functions like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) over the Dynamic variant, making it the overall safer option of the two.

As mentioned earlier, the special launch price for the new Jaecoo J5 EV in Thailand is from THB 549,000 (RM71,339) for the Long Range Dynamic and THB 599,000 (RM77,836) for the top-spec Long Range Max. Mind you, these prices are exclusive for the first 1,000 customers who purchase the EV, with subsequent buyers required to pay the standard prices of THB 629,000 (RM81,735) and THB 679,000 (RM88,232), respectively.

Included with said price is an 8-year or 200,000 km vehicle warranty and a separate 8-year or 160,000 km warranty for both the motor and high-voltage battery, plus several freebies like a wallbox charger, a one-year free insurance plan, and many more.

With the Jaecoo J5 EV already debuting in key right-hand drive (RHD) markets like the UK and Thailand, we can expect this EV SUV to hit our shores sooner or later. That said, Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia did publish a teaser on the petrol-powered version of the J5, which is bound to debut here soon. Could the EV version debut alongside its ICE-powered twin here in Malaysia?
