- July Auto Sales Hit 70,057 Units, 5% Lower Year-On-Year
Malaysia’s new car sales slowed in July 2025, falling 5% year-on-year to 70,057 units from 73,501 a year earlier, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
Yet on a brighter note, sales jumped 28% from June’s 54,863 units.
The rebound, according to the association, was helped by a full working month of 23 days and stronger output, after June’s numbers were weighed down by the Hari Raya Aidiladha holidays.
Passenger vehicles made up the bulk of July sales at 64,438 units, down 4% from last year, while commercial vehicles slipped 7% to 5,619 units.
For the first seven months of 2025, industry sales totaled 443,777 units which is 5% lower than the 464,952 units recorded in the same period last year.
Passenger cars eased 3% to 411,522 units, while commercial vehicles dropped 19% to 32,255 units.
On the production side, July output edged up 1% to 71,439 units, led by 67,075 passenger cars and 4,364 commercial vehicles. However, cumulative production between January and July fell 8% to 424,065 units.
Looking ahead, the MAA expects momentum to hold in August. Higher stocks from July’s production, fresh model launches and Merdeka-month promotions are expected to keep showrooms busy.
