Malaysians Told To Ignore False Claims Of RON95 Rationing

The Ministry of Finance has dismissed a viral claim that RON95 petrol will be rationed once subsidy rationalisation kicks in later this year.

It said the message, which also carried a suspicious link, is fake and urged the public not to be misled.

“Avoid clicking on unverified links and to check only official government channels for updates,” it wrote.

The warning comes as the government prepares to roll out a targeted subsidy scheme that will lower the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per litre for Malaysians.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the plan in July, with implementation expected by the end of September.

“Once the targeted subsidy is in place, the price of RON95 will drop to RM1.99 per litre for Malaysians, while foreign nationals will have to pay the market rate,” Anwar addressed.

He noted that RON95 subsidies have cost the government around RM20 billion annually in 2023 and 2024.  Caricarz-RON95-B10Diesel-FuelPump-(1)-full_normal-(1).jpg
Despite recent drops in global oil prices, the unsubsidised rate of RON95 remains about RM2.50 per litre, well above what Malaysians currently pay.

“This ensures ordinary citizens continue to enjoy affordable fuel while preventing leakages to those who are not eligible,” he said.
